History
Justin M. Fry believed he could produce a better printing ink than anyone else in 1936. He started from scratch, experimented with materials and processes and developed superior ink for his Richmond, Virginia customers. The needs were simpler then...and the customers were closer. But the guiding principles on which the company was founded have remained the same. These company values are what persuaded Alvin W. Hodges to purchase the company, for he too believed in the same guiding principles.
Today, his three son’s Jimmy, Robert, and Billy have never lost sight of these principles. J.M. Fry has always based its success on finding new ways to produce better products using the most current equipment and research methods. As J.M. Fry's business expanded, so did its production capabilities. Increasingly modern facilities were built. The Richmond facility is the premiere printing ink production and research facility in the United States. Using its founder’s success formula, J.M. Fry has transformed itself from a local printer supplier to an emerging worldwide presence in the industry.
